Hitting theaters this winter from Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment is the adaptation of Moneyball author Michael Lewis’s book The Big Short. Directed by Funny or Die co-founder and comedy vet Adam McKay (who also co-wrote Anchorman, Talladega Nights, and Step Brothers alongside Will Ferrell), The Big Short stars Pitt alongside Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carrell. Shining a spotlight on the financial crisis of 2007 through 2010, the film sees the foursome betting against the U.S. economy with the creation of the credit default swap, ultimately profiting from the bursting of the artificially propped-up housing and credit bubble. The Big Short will see a limited release December 11 before going wide December 23.
