25-year-old David Casavant is the owner of one of the largest collections of Helmut Lang in the world, having acquired it over many years largely from eBay auctions. Today, he makes a living renting out some of the iconic designer’s most iconic pieces to the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna and Lorde, who seek to make themselves stand out by wearing rare, vintage clothes that cannot be bought anymore. While Casavant could have easily turned his collection into an archive hidden from all eyes except his own, he has chosen to create this business instead to share these iconic fashion pieces, saying that “I want the pieces to be used, because to me, that’s what clothes are for … It’s like they’re alive, and I want them to stay alive.” Watch the video above as Casavant walks us through what makes Helmut Lang’s clothes so unique.
