NASA Has Discovered a Planet Similar to Earth

NASA scientists have just shared news that they have found a planet most similar to Earth ever discovered. Dubbed Keplar-452b, the planet is 1,400 lightyears away from Earth, and like us, shares a strikingly similar orbit to its own unique star, completing a full cycle in 385 days. Also like Earth and the Sun, Keplar-452b is roughly far enough away from its star that deems it within a safe habitable zone, and possesses liquid water which supports living organisms. Moreover, the temperature of their orbital mass shares a similar temperature as our star. Lead author of the project Jon Jenkins says of the discovery, “it’s awe-inspiring to consider that this planet has spent 6 billion years in the habitable zone of its star; longer than Earth. That’s substantial opportunity for life to arise, should all the necessary ingredients and conditions for life exist on this planet.”
