A Look at a Vintage Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider

While the cost of a new Ferrari might be steep, you might want to prepare yourself for the price tag on this vintage beauty. The Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider is one of only 56 ever made — just 16 of which had open headlights — and has a storied history: Delivered new within Italy, it remained there until 1974 when it moved to Switzerland for 20 years. It recent years it has undergone full restoration by Ferrari’s own Classiche department, has been displayed at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and was even driven by Luca di Montezemolo himself in the parade at the Finali Mondiali in Valencia a few years ago. Now it’s going up for auction by RM Sotheby’s at Villa d’Este next month, and is expected to fetch an enormous sum based on the fact that the last time a California Spider was sold, it went for a record $18.5 million USD, and that was an unrestored model.
