Minecraft for Windows 10 Beta Arriving This Month

After Microsoft acquired the game last year, a “whole new” version of Minecraft is finally coming to Windows, coinciding with the launch of Windows 10 on July 29. Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will mirror older versions of the game, relying on user input in developing and updating the game over time. The game and all future updates will be free for all 20 million players who currently have Minecraft on PC. New players will be able to purchase the game for $10 USD during the entire (indeterminate) length of the beta period.

The new edition is essentially the Pocket Edition of Minecraft for all Windows 10 devices, where players will now be able to create and explore online with up to seven friends through local multiplayer or on Xbox Live. Additionally, a free update slated soon after its initial launch will allow all Pocket Edition players to play online with each other. Alongside the Windows 10 version, Microsoft is also building a special version of the game for its HoloLens headset.
