Sacai 2016 Spring/Summer Collection

Chitose Abe’s Sacai imprint took us back to the early 1980’s club scene to the the heyday of grunge. Set to a soundtrack that featured Donna Summer’s classic “I Feel Love,” the runway was clad with mop-haired men in a setting that was inspired by the iconic Paradise Garage discotheque in New York City. A hot spot for dance and pop music while serving as a crucible for different cultures, Abe took that inspiration and translated it into “a hybrid of all periods and places and genders.” With Garage’s logo sprinkled throughout, the show included flannel, checks and argyles styled with tailored jackets and pajamas. Abe wanted to style a collection that looked like it was picked up off the floor and thrown on, but of course in a way that emulated one’s innate sense of style.
