This year’s MAN showcased the works of up-and-coming designers Rory Parnell Mooney and Liam Hodges. With this year being Hodges third and final presentation, the designer harnessed the theme of old British pirate radio stations and infused that with early ’90s flair — giving the collection an unapologetic demeanor with hints of steam-punk mixed in. The use of sound-waves as a graphic can be seen throughout the collection, and when mixed in with the ongoing use of teal and electric blue, a camouflage patterns is brought to life with the aid of body paint.
Mooney chose to take inspiration from Polish-Russian artist Kazimir Malevich in his almost-all monochromatic (with the exception of yellow) collection. Working with geometric shapes — as seen in the cutouts, absence of material and asymmetrical tops — the collection sees heavy pleating, draped knits and wide openings.
