After showcasing the Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Bred” as a part of the sneaker’s 30th anniversary, Nike continues to observe the legacy of the seminal model with a salute aimed at Michael Jordan’s ferocious airtime. While His Airness didn’t exactly shatter any backboards in an NBA game, his vicious dunking abilities were best evidenced during an exhibition match in Italy in 1985. Accordingly, the AJ1 “Shattered Backboard” mimics the uniform Jordan wore during that fateful game, arriving with a luxurious combination of smooth and pebbled leather throughout the upper. Aside from the importance of the colorway, the “Shattered Backboard” also represents one of the first major releases Nike will use to test its online raffle system. Accordingly, audiences in Chicago, Las Vegas and Los Angeles (amongst other spots) will have to wait for a link from their respective cities’ Nike Twitter accounts to begin the raffle process. Look for the Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Shattered Backboard” to drop on June 27.
