Process: wings+horns x ByBorre Space Suit Part 3

In this final part of our look at the wings+horns x ByBorre Space Suit, we follow the bodysuit and the rest of the wings+horns Fall/Winter 2015 collection from Vancouver to New York City as it is exhibited to the public for the first time, coinciding with New York Fashion Week. Utilizing cutting edge fabric technology combined with skilled, dependable craftsmanship, the space suit is comprised of an all-over grey 3D-knitted one-piece with accompanying hood, gloves and moccasins. The regularly patterned dot and dash imprints of the fabric, redolent of Morse code and concrete rebar, are interrupted in a seemingly organic fashion by imperfections in the textile, which simultaneously call to mind white noise and digital artifacts of the early days of technology. This is juxtaposed against the warm, natural leather accents on the palms of the gloves, the zip pulls, and the moccasins, all of which is held together by a segmented asymmetrical zip that stretches from the neckline to the knee.Withstanding the subzero temperatures of a New York winter, the space suit functions with aplomb in protecting the wearer — Borre Akkersdijk in this case — against the elements. Its effectiveness in the vacuum of space, however, remains to be seen.

The wings+horns x ByBorre Space Suit, as well as the wings+horns 2015 fall/winter collection will be exhibited in its next destination of Paris. For more inside looks at your favorite brands, check out the rest of the HYPEBEAST Process series.
