Minimalist Furniture Piece with a Powerful Character: Twig Chair by Nendo
Designer Sayaka Ito of Japanese firm Nendo sent us photos and information of the new Twig Chair, a minimalist furniture piece with a powerful personality. Since the Italian furniture brand Alias specializes in furniture made from aluminum, the idea was to create a chair made of four aluminum “twigs” and a seat. While the aluminum structure of all of the chairs is the same, five upper portion unit variations feature differing shapes, colors, and materials. A number of different shapes and sitting experiences are achieved by fitting these units onto the four legs to create a T-shape on the tops of the legs, connect sections, or add a high or low backrest.
Choices for seat material include wood, plastic, and fabric. When the seat and upper portion is removed, the aluminum frames of multiple seats can be stacked. The models in the Twig Comfort chair series for example display a backrest in transparent lacquered solid ash wood, seat in transparent lacquered solid ash wood or in MDF and polyurethane foam covered with fabric.
