Mette Aamodt and Andrew Plumb of Aamodt Plumb Architects have remodeled three former barns that were converted in the 1950’s by mid-century architect Henry Hoover. Hoover was an esteemed architect who built many homes in the New England area with his signature form. The renovated barns have gone through a number of transformations since then, but the couple who recently purchased the home wanted to revert it back to the modernist Hoover design. Aamodt and Plumb achieved this by restoring the original massing, while also incorporating present-day features. The focal point of the home is a zen-like garden, framed by oversized windows and high ceilings. In the open kitchen, concrete floors are met with white glossy cabinets for an airy, contemporary ambiance. The mid-century furnishings, complete with Eames lounges and chairs, complement the overall minimal design of the space. For more photos of the home, head over to the Contemporist.
