Babylon – Cultural Space for Skaters in Los Angeles

Not far from the ostentatious tourist trap that is the Hollywood and Highland Center’s Babylon Court, hardcore punk band Trash Talk have created their own skate haven in a former drug dispensary called Babylon, that has aimed to be the antithesis of all things brash and elitist about Hollywood. Intended to be a cultural community center for kids of the LA skate scene to mingle without the pressure to consume, Trash Talk lead guitarist Garrett Stevenson has created something that his 14 year-old self would have wished for, complete with a skate bowl that acts as the centerpiece to this little retreat. Babylon is therefore part art gallery, part clothing store, part zine library, as well as being a performance and event space. Located off the beaten path of Fairfax Avenue, there’s no saying how many 14 year-olds Babylon will inspire towards greater things.
