This Is Daily Life in Japan as Seen Through an 8-Bit Lens

If you’ve ever visited Japan, you can attest to how jaw-droppingly gorgeous it can be, from the light pink “sakura” cherry blossoms to the mundane-yet-beautiful backdrops of the mountainous rural countryside. Japanese illustrator Toyoi Yuuta respects these attributes, but in playful adaptations in classic 8-bit animated graphics. Scenes within, as well as waiting for, the crowded subways, serene landscapes along Japan’s numerous harbors, even a lonely “Nighthawks”-esque rendition of a local beef-bowl fast food restaurant are all honored in glorious, Nintendo-nostalgic gifs. Check out more of Yuuta’s awesome work over at his official Tumblr page but find time to visit the actual, real-life Japan some day soon.
