adidas Unveils the World’s First Shoe Upper Made Completely From Ocean Waste

Upon teaming up with active preservation organization Parley for the Oceans, adidas has unveiled the world’s first shoe upper made entirely from solid ocean pollutants such as disregarded plastics and illegal deep-sea gill nets. Released alongside a talk hosted by the United Nations on June 29, the new conservation-forward design presented by adidas features the retrieved nets from an illegal poaching vessel off the coast of South Africa that have been fortified and woven to create the shoe’s body. Despite only being a very early prototype, the shoe is speculated to sit atop a BOOST sole unit and retain many of the supportive properties you may expect from other adidas performance runners. It is also said that more consumer-ready recycled ocean plastic products will be revealed later this year with the hope of turning this project into a viable source of conservation. Stay tuned to Parley for the Oceans’ official website for further developments as well as a briefing on other conservative efforts.
