From the land of things small and cute, comes the compact and sturdy, yet remarkably agile Nissan Bluebird (also known as the Datsun 510). While the vast majority of the car model was distributed domestically within Japan, Petrolicious speaks to Nissan enthusiast Troy Ermish, the owner of one of only 30 units of the 1600 SSS version in the U.S., about the astounding capabilities of the unlikely race car. “I identify with a 510 because it’s a workhorse, and I never give up, I work hard,” says Ermish. “I think the 510 can be said to be the exactly the same. It’s very well-engineered, and it never gives up.” The car has very much defined Ermish’s life, with the lover of all things Nissan earning a living and funding his own passion for racing his 510 by restoring the very same car in his workshop.
