honeyee “Beyond the Decade” Interview With Hiroshi Fujiwara

This year marks the 10th anniversary of honeyee.com, the lifestyle site of Japan’s most significant leaders and influencers in fashion, design, tech and culture. To celebrate the occasion, the conglomerate posted a special feature interview with none other than mastermind and co-founder Hiroshi Fujiwara. Both humble and honest in his words, Hiroshi chronicles the process and vision of honeyee.com, how its universe has helped shaped the aspects of pop-culture and vice versa, along with a few philosophical knowledge bombs.

When asked about how things have changed:

“I don’t feel there’ve been any changes for the past 10 years. The world became quite boring because there’s nothing new. Nowadays people are too conservative.”

“The evolution of pop-culture stopped in the 80’s because the youth of the 90’s are too complacent to the world.”

About technology:

“Fashion and technology have come together and introduced new concepts. For example, visvim’s sneaker soles are considered standard now, but this technology just wasn’t available 10 years ago.”

“Technology brought upon new environments like social networks. It made everyone a media outlet, but we should express our originality or identity more than just pass along new and shareable topics.”

His thoughts on the future:

“I think information should be more egoistic. Just having topics for the majority is worthless. I want to see more opinions or criticism from the minority.”
