BMW has unveiled its latest iteration in the iconic 7 series lineup. The 2016 model features BMW’s trademark kidney grilles upon an understated exterior. Most notably, this year’s update sees a 190 lb decrease, thanks to the carbon fiber-reinforced plastic and ultra high tensile steel, also resulting in a fifty-fifty weight distribution. Arriving in the 740i variant, which features a 320-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine, and the 750i xDrive with a 445-horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 makes for an impressive lineup. The long wheelbase on all variants — spanning a whole 206.6 inches, an inch longer than its predecessor, makes this one of the largest sedans the German automobile company has ever made. The car is overall highlighted by its new technologies, such as the new active grille shutters and BMW’s air breather system and Parking Assistant. Additionally, the car features iDrive 5.0 with touch display and gesture control, as well as 3D sensors to register hand movements. Wireless device charging is also a plus, along with much more. Pricing will begin at $82,250 for the 740i and $98,350 for the 750i xDriv, with both arriving at the end of the year.
In addition to the 740i and 750i is the M Sport variant, boasting a more aggressive and sporty aesthetic. The aerodynamic body kit includes modified bumpers and side skirts, as well as matte black calipers and 19 inch M light-alloy wheels. The interior also features a redo, with a BMW individual Anthracite headliner and Dakota leather upholstery. M-specific branding finishes off the special touches.
