London’s Public Transport to Begin Using Apple Pay Next Month

Following Apple Pay’s expansion to an estimated 700,000 locations and retailers worldwide earlier this year, Transport for London has confirmed that users of the public system will soon be able to make purchases within the network via Apple Pay. Scheduled to launch in the United Kingdom as early as next month, TfL’s integration of Apple Pay into its system is a logical step forward as a reported 1.2 million contactless payments are already made per day across the transport provider’s network. The app will work very much like an Oyster card as it requires users to touch their iPhone device to the contactless pads seen at barriers, with the option given to make fingerprint-recognized payments online ahead of travel.
