Jon Stewart Leaving “The Daily Show”

After 16 years as the host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart will be vacating his position as the program’s host. Stewart began tenure at the satirical television series in 1999, interiting the position from talk show host Craig Kilborn. Since then, the comedian has catapulted himself, as well as the show, into stardom. Stewart was not the only beneficiary of his long and successful news-parody program, helping Stephen Colbert launch his own successful career which eventually lead to the coveted position as host of CBS’s the Late Show, succeeding comedy legend David Letterman. The departure was confirmed by both Jon Stewart and Comedy Central on their respective Twitter accounts, as well as a statement from network president Michele Ganeless. More information, including the reason for his resignation, is expected during tonight’s episode
