McLaren Teases Its P1 GTR Production Model Set to Debut in Geneva

Upon the initial release of the McLaren P1 in 2012 and its delivery in October of 2013, the McLaren flagship had big shoes to fill as the natural predecessor to the legendary McLaren F1. The contemporary P1 pushed the bar previously set by the F1 with the help of both Formula 1 and hybrid power that helped accentuate a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. While many will deem the primary engine output of 727 bhp and 531 lb-ft of torque together with the 176 bhp and 192 lb-ft of torque from the electric engine more than adequate, McLaren has once again pushed the envelope as they preview an upcoming race-ready McLaren P1 GTR. Without the need to adhere to any regulations for public roads, the P1 GTR is a newly engineered feat worthy of the title of being McLaren’s greatest production model yet. One of the goals early on was to call itself “the best driver’s car in the world on track.” An 83-hp boost brings the power up to 986 hp while aerodynamic upgrades can be seen in the form of a wider front track, lowered ride height and new positioning of the mirrors. In a similar light to other production model race car variants such as Ferrari, McLaren will offer a comprehensive package for owners including racing simulator sessions and driver training. The car will officially be unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motorshow.
