Lincoln Center Will No Longer Host New York Fashion Week

A new settlement between New York City Park Advocates and the city is preventing New York Fashion Week to renew its contract with its conventional host location, Lincoln Center. Filed on December 12, this recent arrangement stems from New York City Parks Advocates’ claims that the event has brought damage to the nearby Damrosch Park, mostly due to tents and equipment having been set up in the area. The NYFW organisers, IMG Fashion Week, are accused of violating city charter by using the venue for non-park purposes. “The City and LCPA [Lincoln Center Performing Arts] intend to further expand public access to the Park by not entering into agreements for commercial events [like] Fashion Week,” reads the settlement. This follows the 2013 lawsuit in which Parks Advocates sued the organisers in a bid for park restoration and public use. Lincoln Center has hosted NYFW since 2010, and would have done so until 2020 prior to recent affairs. The current contract expires after February 2015, and no replacement location has been announced yet.
