Korea-based design firm THE_SYSTEM LAB has unveiled its design for Paul Smith‘s first Asian flagship store in Seoul. Located in the Gangnam district, a trading center for luxury brands, Paul Smith was just the latest high-end fashion imprint to make its mark on area. The architecture of the flagship store was designed to leave a lasting impression on the local urban environment with its highly unique shape, but it was also intended to create different stories depending on the individual’s perspectives and interpretations. There was limited space in the high-density commercial district so the design team used a concrete shell to maximize the floor to area ratio within legal regulations to create a relatively spacious structure compared to other buildings in the neighborhood. Futhermore, THE_SYSTEM LAB employed semi-gloss industrial paint to conceal commercial and structural devices, in order for the store to really stand out.
