Apple Unveils the iPad Air 2

After launching almost exactly a year ago, Apple‘s iPad Air has received an upgrade with the introduction of the thinnest, most powerful iPad yet: the iPad Air 2. Now just 6.1 mm thin and weighing less than a pound, the iPad Air 2 features an improved Retina display for enhanced contrast and richer, more vibrant colors, while new cameras allow for more stunning photos and videos.

Equipped with Touch ID, iOS 8, and Apple Pay, the tablet comes powered by the new Apple-designed A8X chip — which delivers a 40% improvement in CPU performance and 2.5 times the graphics performance of iPad Air — and is equipped with a M8 motion coprocessor that gathers motion data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, and an all-new barometer. As far as cameras go, the iSight has been upgraded with an 8MP sensor, advanced optics, and features like panoramic photos, time-lapse video, slo-mo, and 1080p HD video while the FaceTime HD camera now captures over 80% more light than that of the original iPad Air and features burst mode, as well as HDR stills and video. Finally, 802.11ac WiFi with MIMO technology means the iPad Air 2 offers 2.8 times the WiFi performance of the iPad Air at data rates up to 866 Mbps while the WiFi + Cellular version of the tablet integrates even more LTE bands and comes with expanded LTE for up to 50% faster cellular connections, plus support for both DC-HSDPA and HSPA+.

The iPad Air 2 will be available to order online in gold, silver, and space gray beginning this Friday, October 17 with prices starting at $499 USD.
