Will Nike Match Under Armour’s $285 Million USD Offer for Kevin Durant?

Two weeks ago rumors began circulating about Kevin Durant‘s potential move from Nike to Under Armour. Now ESPN reveals that the Basketball star’s representation, Roc Nation Sports, has informed Nike on Wednesday that there is an offer on the table with Under Armour worth between $265 to $285 million over 10 years. Due to Durant’s existing contract with Nike, the sporting goods giant has the right to match the offer, and if they meet the proposed sum Durant will be under legal obligations to remain with Nike. Nevertheless if Nike does not match the offer, and Durant chooses to leave, Nike has the right to liquidate his latest shoe, the KD7.

His potential move comes as a surprise seeing as he has been one of Nike’s most prominent athletes, however since joining Roc Nation, the agency has been pushing Durant to sign more lucrative deals. Aside from the lure of big money, the Under Armour headquarters is just 36 miles southwest of Durant’s home town Seat Pleasant, Maryland. With the trend of players transitioning back to their roots, could a potential deal with Under Armour see a team change for Durant as his contract with Oklahoma City Thunder is due to expire after the 2015-16 season? Let us know what you think below.
