Berlin studio Yukiko talks us through the good-looking new issue of Flaneur

Johannes Conrad, one half of Berlin-based studio Yukiko along with Michelle Phillips, recently got in touch to share the kaleidoscopic new issue of Flaneur. It arrived in the studio in a bright blaze last week, and since the last issue we covered, the independent German magazine has undergone something of a design overhaul. The fifth issue tackles the city of Athens and centres on Fokionos Negri, a street that was once a river running through the Greek capital. According to Johannes, this is the magazine’s “most literary issue yet, and captures the layers of the street through the stories told to Flaneur by the local people.”

Love Bites: an English cast of transvestites, pole dancers and wrestlers in seaside towns

Tim Richmond wanted to return to his roots in the west of England after taking on the American West in his last photography series Last Best Hiding Place, which was spread over seven years. The resulting Love Bites looks at a stretch of coast along the Bristol Channel and its near-deserted resort towns, spotlighting the small myriad of characters who gather in the area out of season. From transvestites to Latvian pole dancers, amateur wrestlers, fruit pickers and local waitresses, the cinematic series takes cues from realist filmmaking, and Tim cites Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and Pawel Pawlikowski’s Last Resort as influences.
