Immaculate Multi-Family Home in Queens Breaks Neighborhood Monotony

On a charming street in Flushing, Queens, New York,  O’Neill Rose Architects erected a residence so beautifully simple that it immediately attracts attention. You can’t drive by without noticing its pure white minimalist architecture. A dream home for the architects’ client, his wife and their two small children, his younger brother and his wife, and their mother, the spacious residence known as the Choy House was imagined as a contemporary multi-family home in a neighborhood defined by single family homes: “We created three disparate dwellings with areas of connection and overlap that reflect the familial relationships.”

The bright white and wood multi-family home in Queens spreading over 2,700 square feet was designed with the help of the client himself, a builder that specializes in residential construction. Re-purposing excess materials from projects the client worked on, architects imagined a place of relaxation and sharing: “The narrow slice at the front creates a triplex for the married couple; the client and his family occupy the rest of the first and second floors. The lower level, which opens up to the sunken terraced garden, is where the grandmother lives. With front doors only a few feet from each other, the brothers live as neighbors, and all of the spaces connect through the lower level; the ground floor family room and the outdoor pavilion are primary gathering spaces for the whole family.
