Japanese Design Inspires Modern Clark Court Residence in North Carolina

architecture modern residenceCompleted by In Situ Studio in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, Clark Court Residence is a contemporary retreat especially envisioned for owners interested in modern and Japanese design: “Our clients, a young couple with a newborn, challenged us to design an open house on a prominent site that would provide privacy and create intimate connections between the interior and exterior. As designers, their sophisticated tastes allowed us to work in a productive design collaboration”, the architects stated.

The residence was planned on three levels: basement, ground level entry, kitchen and offices on the middle level and bedroom and playroom on the last floor, with large windows and skylights allowing natural lighting to flow freely inside. Other features include “a delicate pavilion which extends southwest from the main volume and onto the most private portion of the site, under three large oak trees. Here, living and dining are sheltered under a broad, thin roof supported by four small columns and the hearth. Operable glass walls open this space to the yard. The slender form of the house and thin edges belie its large size.” Enjoy the virtual gallery below and let us know what you think! [Photos by: Richard Leo Johnson]
