We were impressed by the openness and elegance of this lovely home designed by Carol Sundstrom of Röm Architecture Studio and architect Karen Braitmayer, Working together to transform Karen’s own home for her family resulted in an outstanding remodeling project. Magnolia Mid-Mod House is a welcoming residence located on top of Magnolia hill in Seattle. The new house offers exceptional views, as well as conditions for improving the everyday lives of those with special psychical needs. Cheery and comfortable, this right-sized home with an expansive view is designed “to be user-friendly for wheelchairs and sneakers alike”. Expansive use of glass in the open plan living, kitchen and dining area optimizes the space, while opening the residence to the spectacular views. This project was awarded the AIA/HUD Secretary’s Award in Housing Accessibility which recognizes the “importance of good housing as a necessity of life, a sanctuary for the human spirit, and a valuable national resource.” [Photos and information provided via e-mail by Chibi Moku]
