Tree Bench Designs That Literary Embrace Nature

A tree bench can either refer to a tree shaped like a bench or to an actual man-made bench that incorporates a tree in its design. Today we’ll only focus on the second category and we’ll show you a series of beautiful benches that definitely know how to embrace nature.

Instead of getting rid of the beautiful tree that stands right where you want your deck to be built, wouldn’t it be better to build your deck around the tree and to have a bench wrapped around it?{found on cairnconstruction}.

The combination is perfect. The bench offers you a comfy place to sit while enjoying the beautiful weather and the views, the tree offers you shade and everything is in perfect harmony.{found on f-architects}.

There are plenty of designs and shapes to play with when building or designing such a tree bench. Usually a hexagonal design is preferred because it’s just easier to put together.{found on tsaxbyarchitect}.

But other more unusual and eye-catching designs can work wonderfully. For example, this spiraling tree bench is exquisite and so is the marvelous tree around which it was built.

Maybe your tree is not as majestic as that one but this doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of it. But if you decide to build a bench around a small tree, allow enough room around the tree for it to develop over the years.{found on valledeverde}.

Want to take things a step further? How about a planter designed around a tree or a cluster of trees which also doubles as a bench? That would look beautiful in the garden or backyard.

If you want your tree bench to look simple and a bit more modern, give it an adequate shape and look. This one is a simple, flat and square-shaped platform which wraps around the tree trunk.{found on goexplorenature}.

But what about houses with elevated decks such as this one? Actually, nothing changes. You can still let the tree run through the deck if you want and surround it with a wooden bench, custom made to perfectly fit.{found on udincgc}.

DIY.

If you want, you can build the tree bench yourself. It’s not even that difficult or complicated. First, create a template. The bench will have six sections of equal size so measure the tree’s diameter and make sure you allow a few extra inches between it and the bench.

Cut the seat boards to size and at an angle. Lay out the boards in a hexagonal shape and adjust the joints between them.

Then you’ll have to cut and assemble the legs. You’ll need 12 legs, equally spaced. Once you have all the leg sections built, assemble the bench and level it.

At the end, attach the backrest.{found on thisoldhouse}.

Urban designs.

Even though trees are not that numerous in urban areas, this doesn’t mean they don’t exist. And where there are trees you can also sometimes find tree benches. Some are really impressive. This one, for example, it quite stunning, both in shape and in the way it protects the tree.{found on lepamphlet}.

You can expect urban tree benches to look more modern and to have more fluid and artistic designs. This particular one features gentle curves and smooth lines and an overall very stylish design.

This is another example of an urban tree bench which perfectly combines looks and function. The idea and the design would suit most campus courtyards and other such spaces.{found on mmaltzan}.

This bench is designed in such a way that it offers comfortable seats on each side of the square-shaped planter which is built around the tree. The reduced dimensions of both the benches and the tree make this an excellent idea for apartment complexes or pretty much any other urban area.

Contemporary designs.

In case you weren’t impressed with the more modern versions we showed you, take a look at these contemporary designs which were definitely designed to stand out from the crowd everywhere they go. This one lets its vibrant green color transform it into a focal point. It was designed by Roman Vrtiska.

The Round-B bench is even more impressive. It doubles as a bike rack and it consists of two semi-circular elements. You can rest on the bench along with your bike. That’s quite practical indeed.

CrousCalogero designed a garden bench with a fluid and smooth shape and is made of a single continuous piece. It was designed to be placed around trees or columns and can look just as beautiful in gardens, on terraces or in indoor public spaces.
