DIY Snow Globes

Snow globes are not only a holiday tradition but a fun project that you can do well into the winter season! Who can resist a little winter scene inside a jar? These are easy to make and a great project to do with kids or as a family craft. Use them to add a touch of winter to your home. Perfect for a holiday mantle or winter table scape. Or make a few as gifts for friends and family!

Supplies:

  • glass jar with lid
  • mini trees and/or figurines
  • super glue
  • glitter
  • distilled or bottled water
  • glycerin
  • stick, spoon or straw to stir
  • (optional) ribbon to embellish the finished project

Instructions:

1. Start by arranging your scene for your snow globe on the inside of the lid. Check to make sure that the length and width of whatever you are using will fit inside the jar. When you have arranged your scene to your liking, glue down with super glue and let dry for the time indicated on the back of the bottle of glue.

2.Fill your jar about 3/4 of the way full with the bottled or distilled water.

3. Add a “dash” of glycerin to the water to help your glitter or “snow” fall more slowly.

4. Place glitter into the jar (as much or as little as you would like but keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way in a small jar!

5. Using a straw, stick or spoon mix up the glitter, glycerin and water. This will allow you to test how fast or slow your glitter is falling. If it is falling quickly you can add a touch more glycerin if needed.

6. When your glue is dry on the top of the lid, screw it down on to the jar and flip over. Add a little more water if needed if you feel that your globe is too empty. You may want to do this part over the sink in case you add too much water and it gets messy!

Clean off the outside of the globe and add a little ribbon to the bottom of the jar if you want to embellish it! Shake it up and watch your snow fall over and over again!
