The Porsche 962 Race Car Is the Aspiration of All Porsches

While many are pining over the 911 Carrera Rennsport Reunion Edition revealed earlier, true enthusiasts had their eye on another Porsche at the Rennsport Reunion this year in the form of this pristine Porsche 962. The 962 was a prototype race car the German automotive company brought out in 1984 to race within compliance to the IMSA GTP Championships, while this one belongs to the Dyson Racing group with a serial number of 101 — effectively the first of its kind to be delivered to a customer. The car sports over 680 horsepower and 8,200 RPM with only 1900 pounds to pull — in comparison, the first edition Mazda Miata MX-5 weighs 2,070 pounds, 170 pounds more than the 962. Take into consideration the massive A36 Turbo pumping out over 20 lbs. of boost through its monocoque aluminum chassis and it’s no wonder why the 962 is the envy and archetype of all Porsches, past and present. Check out the video feature below, and for a full article on the legendary Dyson Racing 962 including a more in-depth dissertation and detailed photography, head over to RXspeed.com.
