‘Stretch and Bobbito: A Film About Radio That Changed Lives’

Not many will remember how Stretch and Bobbito first introduced us to some of the biggest names in hip-hop during the ’90s. From an unsigned Nas to then-unknown names like JAY Z, The Fugees, Eminem and Fat Joe, these names were broadcasted with more established MCs like The Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan and Big Pun, whose early sounds permeated through the duo’s WKCR radio show in New York City. Their show pulled in a total of 300 million record sales for all of the artists that premiered with them.

This little piece of hip-hop history is exactly what’s explored in Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives, which documents how two friends came to be unlikely hip-hop legends in the 25-year history of their landmark show. The film also features exclusive appearances by Nas, JAY Z, Eminem, and more, and is currently raising funds on Kickstarter in hopes to be released in theaters and digitally worldwide. The project is Bobbito Garcia’s second time directing a movie and comes after the success of DOIN’ IT IN THE PARK: PICK-UP BASKETBALL, NYC which won the Audience Award for Best Feature at the 2012 Urbanworld Film Festival. Pledge to the project’s actualization here.
