Terrafugia Is Trying To Make A Flying Personal Car

If you’ve never heard of Terrafugia, the brand was founded back in 2006 by a group of MIT-trained engineers. We suspect that during that tenure, Back To The Future was watched a couple of times. Good thing too, because the impossibilities of yesterday might just inform the next direction in traffic control today. Terrafugia has recently taken the wraps off of its latest design – the TF-X  concept vehicle. The car, still in development, is technically a street-legal fixed wing aircraft, but given its engine and electric power source, the TF-X has more in common with an electric car. That’s outside of the whole flying thing. The internal GPS will help drivers navigate both land and air, and will assist with auto-landing when in inclement weather and flying through skylines. The drawbacks here lie in both the cost (unspecified, but high due to the quality of materials) and the turnaround, which at this point Terrafugia has listed as 8 years down the line. For now, enjoy the video below and dust off a certain VHS tape for a glimpse into the future.
