How to Land a Job at Nike

Needless to say, landing a job at the biggest sportswear company in the world isn’t as simple as sending in your résumé. The highly competitive (an understatement) and crowded (also an understatement) pool of potential employees range in the tens of thousands — with Jordan Brand, only a part of the huge company, rumored to receive around 30,000 applications a month. But with any seemingly glamorous job comes hoards of aspiring applicants clamoring for coveted openings, making it imperative that you stand apart. Sole Collector talks to a former Nike employee Jeff Harris to pick his brain on what might make you pop out from the bunch. According to the now-sneaker boutique owner, “Nike is one company that I can say where it doesn’t matter who you know, really. If your skill set isn’t there, they won’t hire you. That’s the bare, honest to God truth.”

And while you may be the best at what you do and stand a chance at working for the Swoosh, that might not be enough. “There’s going to be a lot more opportunities in Beaverton than there are in New York or LA,” says Harris, “if you’re really looking to get your passion dream job at Nike, then you’ve got to find a way to get to Portland and make it work.”
