Leon Emanuel Blanck 2015-2016 Fall/Winter “RIGOR MORTIS” Lookbook

For the 2015-2016 fall/winter season, designer Leon Emanuel Blanck explores the concept of stiffness in his forthcoming collection aptly titled, “Rigor Mortis.” Blanck continues his unconventional cloth-making process of molding large pieces of material to the human body for his garments to take shape. For this collection, Blanck used Rigor Mortis, or “The Death Stiffness,” a special resin that the designer created himself that is applied onto garments as a stiffening treatment to give fabric a hard external side with sharp edges, and a soft and comfortable inside. Dark, futuristic and industrial pieces feature atypical designs of coats, leather jackets, sweaters, knitwear, long-sleeved tops and pants that feature anatomical wool and cashmere fused lining, which gives the collection that patchwork style and external stitching detailing. Garments are made of technical fabrics like supple leather, heavy linen, bamboo canvas, heavy wool loden and developed, military-grade, double jersey Kevlar knits that has resistant aramid fibers and fire-resistant glass fibers. Honeycomb Knit pieces are made of a special heavy merino wool knit that feature a honeycomb-like texture. Detailing like the bullet hole across the heart regions of the wild boar leather jacket aims to commemorate the death of the animal into its rebirth onto the wearer, which also furthers the collection’s concept of life, death and resurrection.
