After being tantalized over the past 10 days by Nike‘s campaign for the 10th iteration of the Kobe silhouette, we are finally offered a look at the Kobe X. Featuring 10 elements, starting with the “Mamba Shark Jaw,” which refers to the seamless textile upper inspired by shark skin, it’s evident that every aspect of the design pays tribute to the Black Mamba’s strength and aggressive style of play on the court. Additionally, the sneaker’s hybrid cushioning is made possible by the combination of Nike’s proprietary Lunarlon technology and Free-inspired sipping grooves, as well as the Zoom Air unit at the heel. A standout feature is the advanced traction system, aptly dubbed “Mamba Race Car,” which offers up a tread similar to what is found on performance racecar tires with its hundreds of nodules that grip and splay at high speeds. With its official unveiling today, the Kobe X is pegged for a February 7 release.
